Appointed as the Chair of Destination Canada by the Governor in Council in 2017, a role he served until 2021, Cowan-Dewar has made significant contributions to the tourism sector. He is a
member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal by Governor General David Johnston in June 2017 for his visionary leadership in building Cabot and his contributions to the Inverness community and Cape Breton economy. In 2020, Cowan-Dewar was one of nine business leaders named to the Industry Strategy Council, supporting Canada’s economic recovery from COVID-19.
