Raised in The Netherlands and summering in the north of Scotland, Guido claims that it was assisting at a local tea garden which started his passion for the hospitality industry. What followed was a stellar path to growing industry accomplishment and recognition. After decades in business across Europe and North America, Guido is considered by industry leaders, government planners, and satisfied clients alike as a respected, and always helpful, source of information and counsel. Successive academic achievement, stints at various Michelin Star restaurants, self-enterprise business start-ups and upscale hotel internships would eventually lead Guido to North America. Moving from coast-to-coast, promotion-to-promotion across Canada, Guido joined New Castle in the position of General Manager of the historic Westin Nova Scotian. The venerable old railway-era hotel had been saved by new owners but needed a massive turnaround at every level. Undaunted, Guido and his team’s community-based approach, aggressive selling, and superior service delivery resulted in making that turnaround in 18 months, along with a market value increase from $7 million to $34 million in less than four years. Over the years Guido and his team have added a number of select service hotels and resorts to the Canadian portfolio. Guido has since assumed the position of COO, overseeing both the Canadian and US portfolio of hotels. Guido is a rugby fanatic and an active cyclist. Since 2011 Guido has served the Kingdom of The Netherlands as Honorary Consul in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland/Labrador, as well as a host of boards serving his community.
